Control pads beat speed pads for precise aiming.

Usually.

Control pads have more surface friction—think slower glide, more stopping power. That friction makes micro-adjustments easier because your mouse doesn’t keep sliding past the target. For twitchy precision in shooters (e.g., CS2, Valorant), this matters a lot.

Speed pads are slick and let the mouse glide effortlessly. Great for fast flicks, but terrible for fine aim if your sensitivity is high. You’ll constantly overshoot. Low-sensitivity arm aimers can sometimes get away with speed pads because they use bigger movements, but even then, control is safer for consistency.

If you’re buying one pad for shooters, get a control pad. You can always adjust sensitivity, but you can’t add friction back to a speed pad. A $25 control pad (like the QcK Heavy or a cheaper equivalent) will serve you better than a $50 speed pad unless you know you need that glide.

Future You hitting more headshots will thank you.
