You really only need two: a removable divider to keep drinks separate from food, and a cutting board that fits inside.

Everything else — bottle openers, baskets, cup holders, fancy drain plugs — is either built into the cooler already or a waste of space. A decent divider (like the Yeti one, or a generic equivalent) stops soggy sandwiches when the ice melts. A thin plastic cutting board doubles as a shelf or prep surface and keeps things organized.

Bottle openers? You have a key, a knife, or a lighter. Don’t buy a piece of plastic that lives on a cooler latch.

The best cooler accessory is a good cooler to begin with. After that, less is more.
