Yes, portable countertop ice makers are self-contained. You fill a water reservoir, plug them in, and they make ice—no plumbing, no water line, no drain.

Most of these things work the same way: pour water into the top, wait about 10 minutes, and you’ve got a batch of nugget or bullet ice. They’re meant for spaces where a fridge with an ice maker isn’t an option — dorms, RVs, boats, offices, or just a kitchen that refuses to give up counter space.

The trade-offs: they make small batches, so you’re refilling the reservoir if you need a lot. And the ice sits in a bin where it melts, so there’s a tray you’ll need to empty. Some models even recirculate the melted water back into the reservoir, which is convenient but means you’re not getting fresh water every cycle. Also, they’re not a replacement for a fridge ice maker if you go through ice daily — they’re more like a countertop appliance you run when you need ice.
