Covered porch doesn't make indoor cords safe.
No. An indoor extension cord is still an indoor extension cord, even if it never sees rain.
The problem isn’t just direct water. Covered porches still get humidity, temperature swings, and condensation. Indoor cords have thinner insulation and no weatherproofing. Over time, the jacket can crack or become brittle, exposing wires. Even a single damp morning can turn that cord into a shock risk.
Code says outdoor cords need to be marked for outdoor use for a reason. The difference is a few bucks. The consequence of ignoring it is a potential fire or electrocution.
Buy an outdoor-rated cord. It costs maybe ten bucks more and lasts years. This is not where you save money.
