DDR5 mostly helps CPU-bound games — sims, strategy, and esports.

CPU-bound titles like Factorio, Civilization VI, and Counter-Strike 2 see the biggest gains from DDR5, sometimes 15-30% higher fps over good DDR4. But most AAA games are GPU-bound, so they barely care.

Why? DDR5’s higher bandwidth and lower latency (when you buy kits with decent timings) help when the CPU is constantly waiting for data. Sims and strategy games are notorious for being memory-starved. Factorio with a giant base? DDR5 can cut stutter noticeably. CS2 at 1080p low settings? You’ll hit higher minimum fps. F1 22 simulation mode? Also gains. Meanwhile, Cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p ultra with ray tracing? 1-3% difference at most. The GPU is the bottleneck there.

For benchmarks: Gamers Nexus tested Factorio at 25% improvement in mega-base frametimes. CS2 saw ~
