Soldered RAM isn’t just attached differently — it’s part of the board’s design. The memory controller, traces, and power delivery are all laid out specifically for the soldered chips. Adding a DIMM slot would require routing new traces, which means cutting into the PCB layers, and the controller almost certainly cannot handle both soldered and modular RAM on the same channel. Even if you managed to physically attach a slot, the laptop’s BIOS would not recognize it.

What people actually do is reball or replace the soldered chips with higher-capacity ones. That requires a hot air rework station, steady hands, and knowing the exact compatible RAM modules. It’s done by repair shops, not at home with a soldering iron. And even then, the laptop must support the new configuration — many don’t.

If you need more RAM, sell the laptop and buy one with upgradeable slots. Modding soldered RAM is a project for experts with deep pockets and a high tolerance for destroying motherboards. For everyone else: don’t.
