Don't buy a smart lunch box

Smart lunch boxes with temperature sensors and eat reminders exist, but they’re not worth the money for everyday work lunches.

Most of what you’ll find on Amazon is just an electric heated lunch box with a thermometer and a companion app. The app shows you the internal temp and lets you set a notification to remind you to eat. That’s the whole “smart” part.

Here’s the thing: the temperature readout is a solution to a problem you don’t have. Open the lid and look at the food. Touch the container. That tells you everything you need. And the eat reminder? Your phone already has a clock and a notification center. You don’t need a $60 gadget to tell you it’s noon.

The only case where I’d hesitate is if you genuinely forget to eat because you’re in back-to-back meetings all day. But even then, set a recurring alarm on your phone and get a normal insulated bag or a cheap plug-in food warmer for under $30. That combination does 95% of the job for half the price.
