Don't buy DDR5 now for a future build.
No. If you’re planning a new build down the road, wait until you actually build it to buy the RAM. Prices will keep dropping, and you’ll get a better deal with current-gen stuff when you’re ready to buy everything at once.
Here’s the thing: DDR5 prices are still settling. They’ve come down a lot, but they’re not done falling. If you buy now and stash it in a drawer, you’re locking in today’s price for something that’ll be cheaper in six months. Plus, there’s always a chance compatibility or revision changes happen – you might end up with sticks that don’t play nice with your actual motherboard.
If your current machine is maxing out at 16GB and you need 32GB now, just add more DDR4 (if your board supports it). It’s cheap, proven, and you can sell it later if you want. No sense overpaying for future hardware you don’t have yet.
RAM is not a collectible. Buy what you need when you need it.
