Don't cook on the beach.

You don’t.

Most public beaches ban open fires, charcoal grills, and even propane stoves. Even where they’re technically allowed, cooking on sand is a pain—wind blows ash everywhere, food gets gritty, and cleanup is a whole thing.

The real answer is cold food. Pack a good cooler with sandwiches, salads, fruit, cheese, cured meats, and plenty of drinks. Throw in some pre-made items like cold fried chicken or wraps. If you absolutely need something hot, bring a thermos with soup or chili.

If you’re dead set on cooking at the beach and the local rules allow it, a small backpacking-style propane stove (like a Jetboil or Pocket Rocket) on a stable surface is your best bet. But honestly? You’re at the beach. Don’t make it complicated.

Your future self will thank you for not dealing with a sandy spatula.
