Don't enable XMP with ECC RAM.

No, you usually can’t – and even if you can, you shouldn’t.

ECC RAM is designed for stability first, speed second. Most consumer motherboards (even ones that support ECC) don’t validate XMP profiles on ECC memory. On Intel, ECC basically only works on W-series chipsets, and XMP isn’t part of the validation process. On AMD Ryzen, some boards let you enable XMP with ECC sticks, but you’ll often run into training failures or random crashes because the memory controller wasn’t binned for tight timings.

The core issue: ECC modules are built for servers/workstations where data integrity beats throughput. Overclocking them defeats the purpose. If you need fast timings, buy standard non-ECC memory with a rated XMP profile. If you need ECC, run it at JEDEC speeds and call it a day.

You can’t have both. Pick one.
