Don't let a broken app kill your goal
When your tracking app breaks, don’t pause — switch to a simpler method immediately.
The real threat isn’t the app failure; it’s the gap you create while you wait for a fix. Momentum is fragile. A day off becomes two, becomes a week, becomes “I’ll restart next month.” By then, your Q1 goal is toast.
First, recognize that the app was never the point. You were using it to stay consistent. If it stops working, grab anything that works right now: a paper notebook, a sticky note on your desk, the Notes app on your phone, a Google Doc, your calendar. Literally anything that lets you record a simple checkmark or a sentence each day.
Don’t spend time researching a replacement app. Don’t wait for the developer to push an update. That’s just procrastination in disguise. Use a low-friction alternative for the next week. If you miss a day because you’re “between systems,” you’ve already lost the streak you were trying to protect.
Ideally, have a backup method ready before it breaks. But if you didn’t, just grab the nearest writing tool and put today’s entry down. The method is disposable. The habit is not.
The app is a tool, not the goal.
