Don't overthink board shorts. Hurley Phantom or O'Neill Hyperfreak.

Either of those. They dry fast, have reliable zipper pockets, and won’t fall apart after a season of saltwater and sand.

The real trick is the fabric. You want something that dries in minutes, not hours, and that doesn’t get heavy when wet. The Phantoms and Hyperfreaks both use that stretchy, quick-dry polyester blend. The zipper pockets are deep enough for a phone and keys, and they actually stay closed – cheap ones pop open on you.

Don’t waste money on Patagonia or branded hype. A $50–60 pair from a surf brand does the same job as a $120 pair. The only thing to avoid: any board short with velcro pockets. Velcro picks up sand and stops sticking after a few washes.

Buy two pairs. Rotate. You’re set for years.
