Don't put fruit salad loose in the lunch box

The best way is to pack fruit salad in its own sealed container, not directly in the lunch box.

Cut fruit keeps releasing juice, and that juice will find its way to the seams of even a decent lunch box. A small leak-proof container — a mason jar, a silicone cup, or a bento box with a gasketed lid — contains the mess where it belongs.

If you’re still seeing liquid pooling, drain the fruit before packing, or stick a folded paper towel under the fruit to soak up extra (helps keep things fresh, too). And skip adding any extra juice or dressing unless you really need it — that’s usually what turns a salad into soup.

Future you won’t have to wipe out a sticky bag at the end of the day.
