Don't reach in without unplugging.

That’s the big one. Automatic pool cleaners are electrical, they run in water, and half the safety issues come from treating them like a toaster you could drop in the bath.

Unplug the power supply (or the cord) before you touch the cleaner, the hose, or the water near it. Even if it’s “off” – the socket is still live. Use a GFCI outlet, which you probably already have for any pool equipment. If you don’t, fix that first.

Other common-sense stuff: keep the cord and hose out of the way so nobody trips. Don’t let kids play with the floating cord or the cleaner itself – it’s not a toy. And if you’re using a chlorine or salt system, rinse the cleaner occasionally so chemicals don’t corrode the seals.

Most of it is “don’t be an idiot around electricity and water.” The manual probably says the same thing. Read it.

Future you will appreciate not getting zapped.
