Don't run your metal lunchbox through the dishwasher

Metal-framed lunch boxes are a dishwasher gamble you don’t need to take — hand-wash them instead.

The heat and detergent are brutal on anything that isn’t solid stainless steel. If the frame or hinge is plated, coated, or just cheap steel, it can pit, rust, or lose its finish after a few cycles. Even a solid stainless hinge has internal lubricant that washes out, then it starts grinding.

The adhesive holding trim or inner panels can also loosen. It’s not about one cycle ruining it — it’s the slow damage you notice too late.

Your sink is right there. Save the dishwasher for dishes.
