Don't sit on a cheap cooler.
Probably not, unless you bought a rotomolded cooler. That $30 Igloo from the gas station will crack the first time you plop down on it. The thin plastic just can’t handle your weight.
Rotomolded coolers—the Yetis, Pelicans, RTICs, and Orcas—are built to be sat on. They’re thick, single-piece plastic with actual structural stiffness. Most of them have a load rating in the specs. If it doesn’t list one, don’t sit.
Some of those coolers even have a non-slip rubber top or recessed lid made for standing or sitting. That’s a design choice, not an accident. But the cheap ones with the smooth, hollow lids? Those are for drinks only.
I wouldn’t sit on any cooler that doesn’t cost at least $100 new. Your backside will thank you.
