Don't use a hard pad with an ultralight mouse.

You’re right — a smooth hard pad with a 45g mouse is a recipe for overshooting. The combination of low weight and near-zero static friction means your mouse keeps moving after you stop, and you’ll constantly overcorrect.

Cloth pads give you that controlled glide because they have more dynamic friction. You can stop on a dime, and micro-adjustments feel planted. Hard pads are great for high DPI, slow sensor tuning, or heavy mice. But with a sub-50g mouse in an FPS, cloth is the safer bet.

I’d grab a medium-texture cloth pad like an Artisan Zero or a G-SR-SE. You get speed without the slip.
