Don't wrap it, box it

The secret to a waste-free lunch is realizing the box is the wrap — you don’t need single-use anything if the container does the work.

The big mindset shift is to stop thinking in terms of packaging and start thinking in terms of compartments. Get a bento-style lunch box or a small set of glass/stainless containers. Wet stuff (yogurt, dressing, cut fruit) goes in the little leakproof containers. Dry stuff (sandwich, crackers, veggies) goes straight in the main compartment. Lids keep it contained. That’s the whole system.

For the things that used to need a bag or a sheet of wrap: beeswax wraps are the plastic-wrap replacement that actually works. They mold around a sandwich, last about a year, and wash with cold water. If you hate fiddling with them, a cloth napkin wrapped around a sturdy sandwich does the job too. And for snack-sized ziploc duty, silicone bags (Stasher or any generic brand) are the only thing that genuinely behaves like a bag.

Everything else is just carry gear: a reusable bottle for drinks, utensils from home or a bamboo set, a cloth napkin. It’s not a lifestyle overhaul — it’s owning the gear and making it part of your morning routine.

Start with a good box and one beeswax wrap. That alone kills most of the waste.
