Dry the seal — that's the real trick

Vinegar and a dry towel do more than bleach ever will when it comes to silicone lunch box seals.

Mold grows because moisture gets trapped in that little groove. So the fix is two parts: kill what’s there, then make sure it can’t come back. Pop the seal out if you can. Soak it in a 50/50 white vinegar and water mix for 10-15 minutes. Scrub with an old toothbrush if you see spots. Rinse, then — this is the part people skip — dry it completely in the open air before putting it back.

Bleach works too, but it can break down silicone over time and it smells like a pool. Baking soda paste is good for stuck-on gunk, but vinegar is the everyday answer.

Once it’s dry, pop it back in. From now on, just leave the lid cracked open after washing so air gets in. That alone prevents most mold. Also, dishwashers are fine for the box, but the heat can warp the seal — hand wash it if you’re worried.
