Dual-channel DDR4 still beats single-channel DDR5 for gaming.

Yes, for most games, a dual-channel DDR4 setup will outperform a single-channel DDR5 setup. Memory bandwidth is only part of the story. Latency matters a lot for gaming, and DDR5’s higher latency hurts it when running single-channel. Dual-channel effectively doubles the bandwidth of DDR4 and keeps latency low. Gamers Nexus and Hardware Unboxed have shown that in many titles, DDR4-3600 CL16 dual-channel beats DDR5-4800 single-channel by a noticeable margin. DDR5 only becomes clearly better when you’re also running dual-channel or at higher speeds (6000+), but that’s a different price bracket.

Unless you’re pairing it with a CPU that specifically needs the bandwidth (like some productivity tasks), don’t chase single-channel DDR5 for gaming. Better to stay with a good dual-channel DDR4 kit.

Future You will thank you for not overpaying for worse performance.
