Durability beats recycled materials in coolers.

Skip the “made from recycled plastic” hype and buy a cooler that will last twenty years instead.

The most eco-friendly cooler isn’t the one with the greenest marketing. It’s the one you don’t replace. A roto-molded plastic cooler (think Yeti, Pelican, Engel) is built like a tank. It will survive camping trips, beach days, and being thrown off a truck bed for decades. That’s real environmental impact — not buying a new cooler every few seasons because the hinges broke.

If you absolutely want recycled materials, Igloo’s ECOcool line uses recycled plastic and is decent for the price. But it’s not as durable. You’re trading longevity for a feel-good label. Also, many “eco” coolers skimp on insulation — you’ll use more ice, more water, more energy making ice.

The real green move: buy once, cry once. Or find a used high-end cooler on Facebook Marketplace. Even better.
