ECC RAM latency is not something you’ll notice.

The difference is tiny – typically 1–2% at the same frequency and timings. For basically everyone outside of a lab, it’s imperceptible.

ECC (Error-Correcting Code) adds an extra check on every memory read/write, which takes a few extra clock cycles. But when you compare sticks with the same rated speed and CAS latency, the real-world performance hit is maybe 1–3 nanoseconds. In games, rendering, or even heavy multitasking, you won’t feel it.

If you need ECC for stability (servers, workstations, long-running computations), don’t worry about latency. Just don’t mix ECC with non-ECC on the same board – that’s where you get real problems.

Trust the numbers, not the forums.
