ECC RAM won't fix your Plex server reliability.

Probably not—your CPU and motherboard are the real gatekeepers for ECC support.

Consumer gaming platforms (Intel Core or AMD Ryzen non-Pro) rarely support ECC. Even if the motherboard has the slots, the chipset or BIOS often just ignores the ECC functionality. The RAM might work, but it’ll run in non-ECC mode, so you’ve wasted money.

If you really want ECC, you’d need a workstation CPU/mobo combo (like an Intel Xeon or AMD Ryzen Pro on a compatible board). But for a Plex server, ECC is overkill unless you’re storing irreplaceable data and need every bit protected from cosmic rays. A simple nightly backup is more practical.

Save the cash for a bigger hard drive. Your gaming PC will be fine without ECC.
