Enzyme cleaner is the secret to a fabric lunch box

For a fabric lunch box interior you can’t remove, the trick is a warm water soak with an enzyme cleaner, then a stiff brush. Wiping alone won’t touch dried-on food or drink residue.

Enzyme cleaners (like OxiClean, Nature’s Miracle, or any enzymatic stain remover) break down the proteins and sugars in the dried leak instead of just pushing them around. Mix a scoop into warm water, fill the lunch box enough to cover the stained fabric, and let it sit for 30–60 minutes. Then scrub with a brush — a nail brush or an old toothbrush works — and rinse with clean water.

If the fabric isn’t waterproof underneath, don’t drown it. Instead, wet the stained areas with the solution, let it soak, then blot and scrub. Repeat if needed. To dry, prop the lid open and use a fan or stick it in a sunny spot. Mildew is the only thing worse than the original spill, so don’t pack it away while still damp.

One more thing: if it still smells after cleaning, that’s trapped residue, not bad luck. Soak it again. Enzyme cleaner will get you there eventually.
