Ethanol-free gas doesn't need stabilizer for 2–3 months

Ethanol-free premium gas will be just fine sitting in your chainsaw for 2–3 months without any stabilizer.

The whole reason stabilizer exists is to fight problems ethanol creates — moisture absorption, phase separation, and gummed-up carbs. Premium ethanol-free gas skips most of that. Two to three months is solidly inside the safe window. Small engine manufacturers generally say untreated fuel is good for up to 90 days, and that’s with ordinary pump gas. Ethanol-free only extends it.

Longer than that — say, 6+ months — and I’d add stabilizer to be safe. Same deal if you’re forced to use ethanol-blended gas. But for a quick spring-to-summer or fall-to-winter nap, you’re fine.

That said, stabilizer is cheap and doesn’t hurt. If you’ve got a bottle in the garage, dump a little in and move on. It’s just not the difference between “starts right up in May” and “rebuilding the carb.” For 2–3 months, you can skip it and not lose sleep.
