Eye strain is about light quality, not brightness
Get one with a CRI of 90 or higher, a dimmer, and a color temperature around 4000K. That combo does more for eye comfort than any weird “anti-glare” marketing.
For studying, you want light that renders text and colors cleanly without harsh shadows. High CRI means the light isn’t making everything look slightly muddy. Dimmable is huge because ambient lighting changes during the day — you don’t want to blast 100% at 10pm. And 4000K is that sweet spot between warm and sterile white. Too warm (2700K) and you’ll feel sleepy; too cool (6500K) and it feels like an operating room.
Also check for “flicker-free.” Cheap lamps with cheap drivers pulse at a frequency you can’t see but your brain notices, and that is a real cause of eye strain. If the listing mentions a DC power supply or flicker-free driver, that’s a good sign.
For the USB port, don’t assume it charges fast. A lot of lamps throw in a 5W port that barely keeps a phone alive. If you want to actually top up your phone or tablet, look for at least 10W (or Power Delivery if you’re on USB-C). Also make sure the port is on the base or arm — not on the lamp head where it gets in the way.
