Hydroelectric power at Niagara Falls started in 1895 on the American side

The first large-scale hydroelectric plant at Niagara Falls fired up in 1895 on the American side. The Canadian side followed with the Toronto Power Generating Station in 1906. A century later, the falls still generate a massive share of the region’s electricity.
