Fiskars Blunt-Tip Kids Scissors are the only answer

Fiskars Blunt-Tip Kids Scissors are the default choice for school, and for good reason.

They cut paper cleanly, the plastic handles are comfortable for small hands, and the blunt tip means you don’t have to worry too much about stab injuries. They’re the ones with the orange handles — you’ll recognize them.

A couple of things worth knowing. Get the 5-inch size, not the bigger adult ones. And if your kid is left-handed, buy the left-handed version. Regular scissors are misery for lefties, and the whole “just use your right hand” thing is nonsense.

Cheap no-name scissors feel fine in the store and then fold the paper after a month. Skip them. These last. Buy two pairs while you’re at it, because one will eventually disappear into a backpack black hole.

Don’t overthink scissors. These are the ones.
