For 7 mini meals, get a bento or a bag that fits your own containers

For small, frequent meals, the smartest setup is either a 6-7 compartment bento box or an insulated lunch bag that fits a set of small leak-proof containers. You don’t want one big box with a couple of sections.

A traditional bento box is built for this exact style of eating: five, six, or even eight little sections for different foods without anything touching. The compartments keep portions in check and make it easy to graze throughout the day. Look for one with removable dividers or a tight-sealing lid if you’re carrying anything wet.

If you’d rather use your own mini containers, then stop thinking “lunch box” and start thinking “carrier.” A good insulated lunch bag that stands upright and can fit about 6-7 small rectangular containers works better than any single molded box. That gives you the freedom to pack your own mix of glass, stainless, or plastic small containers, all stackable and leak-proof. Just measure the containers before you buy the bag.

Either way, the key is more small compartments, not one big cavern. Make sure everything is easy to clean, and you’re set.

Your future self will appreciate not carrying a giant box for what is basically a snack.
