For kayaking, wear a rash guard and board shorts.
Don’t wear a bikini or a loose one-piece. They ride up, shift around, and leave you exposed to sunburn and chafing. Rash guards stay put and protect your back and shoulders. Board shorts or swim tights give you coverage and won’t bunch up under a spray skirt.
The real issue isn’t modesty—it’s function. You want something that won’t get caught on a buckle, won’t hold water like a sponge, and won’t force you to adjust constantly. Wetsuit material is overkill for warm weather, but a rash guard + quick-dry shorts is perfect.
If you’re doing longer trips or cold water, get a wetsuit top. Otherwise, this combo works for lazy river floats and ocean kayaking alike.
Worry about the sun, not about your suit slipping off mid-stroke.
