For liquids, a thermos beats any lunch box
The best leak-proof container for yogurt, soup, or smoothies is a wide-mouth insulated thermos, not a lunch box.
I know that’s maybe not the answer you wanted, but it’s the honest one. Lunch boxes with silicone seals and locking clips are fine for sandwiches or fruit, but liquids find every weak point. A sealed compartment that gets squeezed in a backpack is a gamble. You don’t want to find out you lost that gamble on the bus.
What actually works is a screw-on lid. Think Hydro Flask, Stanley, or Klean Kanteen food jars. They have thick silicone gaskets that sit deep in the threads, and the lid physically can’t pop open if you drop the bag. Some have a “lock” or a vent button, but the screw threads are the real seal. Just check that the gasket is seated properly before you fill it.
If you really want a lunch box, look for something with a heavy glass jar inside and a clamp-down lid — like a Weck jar. Clamps plus rubber gaskets are proven. But that’s more fragile in a backpack. For everyday liquid-carrying, a thermos is lighter, tougher, and almost forgetful-proof: fill, twist, go.
Your backpack will thank you.
