For soup, get a thermos jar, not a lunch box
For carrying soup or curry without spilling, the best answer is a vacuum-insulated food jar like the Thermos Stainless King or Hydro Flask Food Jar, not a regular lunch box.
Regular lunch boxes with all those clips and rubber gaskets? They’re fine for a sandwich and fruit, but they’re not designed for thin liquids. Soup sloshes, pressure builds when it’s hot, and seals fail. Even the good ones will eventually leak into your bag.
A food jar has a wide mouth, a twist-on lid with a solid gasket, and for some models, a folding spoon in the lid. The Thermos Stainless King is the classic, it’s cheap and nearly indestructible. Hydro Flask costs more but keeps soup hot longer. Stanley also makes a solid version. Any of them will pass the “turn it upside down in your backpack” test. For curry with sauce, same thing.
One tip: don’t buy the tiny 8-ounce jars. Get at least 16 ounces. Portion sizes in the marketing photos are lies. And don’t trust glass containers with plastic lids, even the ones that advertise leak-proof. They leak.
A hot meal that doesn’t end up all over your laptop is worth the price.
