Foraged branches need almost no effort.
Just cut them, stick them in water, and let them do their thing.
Forsythia and pussy willow are built for this. They already have natural curves and budding interest. You don’t need floral foam, wire, or a design degree. A plain glass vase or a ceramic pitcher works fine. Trim the stems at an angle so they drink water better, strip any leaves that would sit below the waterline, and arrange them loosely.
If you want early flowers — like crocus or snowdrops — tuck a few small jars or shot glasses among the branches, or just set a low bowl of them in front. The branches are the star; flowers are the accent.
The best spring centerpiece is the one you didn’t try to control.
