Freeze something you’d pack anyway

The trick is to stop buying freezer packs and instead freeze something that’s already going in your lunch.

You need cold mass, not a special product. A freezer pack is literally just frozen goo. A water bottle, juice box, or yogurt cup does the same job and doubles as lunch. Fill a bottle three-quarters full the night before and freeze it. It keeps your sandwich cold and is ice water by noon.

Grapes and berries work too if you’re packing fruit anyway. Even a small frozen smoothie in a thermos kills two birds.

But if you have zero freezer access — morning of, nothing cold — insulation alone won’t keep meat or dairy safe until lunch. Don’t push it. Pack shelf-stable stuff (PB&J, nuts, dried fruit) or plan on using the work fridge.

A frozen water bottle is the one freezer pack that earns its keep.
