Freeze the soup
Freezing soup is the easiest way to pack it for lunch without leaks. It turns a liquid problem into a solid one—no sloshing, no spilling, nothing to soak through the lid.
Get a decent leak-proof container (you don’t need an expensive one, just test it with water first), fill it with soup, leave a little space at the top, and freeze it solid overnight. By lunchtime it’s usually still cold enough to be food-safe, and whatever’s melted stays inside. If you need it hot, use a real thermos, not a plastic container. You lose a lot of heat with thin lids.
Backup trick: if you’re using something questionable like a reusable plastic bowl, put the whole thing inside a Ziploc. That catches any leak before it hits your lunch bag. And no, “leakproof” doesn’t actually mean leakproof until you’ve tested it upside down yourself.
Freeze first, and you can stop worrying about the lunch bag.
