Freezing will ruin your pool chemicals.

Keep them in a cool, dry place that stays above freezing and away from moisture.

Pool chemicals are finicky. Liquid chlorine freezes and turns into salt water — useless. Granular and tablet forms can clump or break down when exposed to moisture or temperature swings. A shed that gets damp in winter is just as bad as a garage that freezes solid.

Separate your acids from your chlorine compounds. Store them in original containers with lids tight. Label everything clearly. If you have room, a dry shelf in the basement or indoor storage closet works better than a garden shed. Just keep them out of reach of kids and pets, obviously.

Don’t store pool chemicals near furnace vents or water heaters. Heat and moisture accelerate degradation. A plastic tub with a lid is fine for keeping them organized, but never mix different chemicals in the same container.

One leak or bad mix in a dirty shed can turn into a serious problem. Future You does not want a chemical fire or a ruined batch of next year’
