Get a bento box, not a bigger Tupperware.
The ideal lunch box for portion control is a compartmentalized bento-style box, not one big open container.
The reason it works is that it forces the plate method on you without thinking. A good one has three sections sized like this: half for vegetables, a quarter for protein, a quarter for carbs. That’s the standard weight-loss plate formula, and the box does the portioning for you. No food scale, no counting, no guessing.
Size matters more than you’d think. Aim for around 3 to 4 cups (700–900 ml) total capacity. Anything bigger invites you to fill it, and people eat what’s in front of them — that’s the whole trick. And skip the boxes with a dozen tiny compartments shaped like a snack tray. Those make you pack more food, not less.
Glass or stainless steel is nicer to eat from, but the material doesn’t matter for weight loss. Plastic is fine if it’s microwave-safe and easy to wash.
The right box is the one that makes the healthy portion the default instead of a decision you have to make every day.
