Get a bento box with a separate dressing cup

The best lunch box for salad is one with a leak-proof, snap-on dressing cup — not just a compartment divider, because dressing always finds its way under those.

Dividers look great in photos but they don’t seal. A simple plastic wall doesn’t stop oil and vinegar from creeping over to the lettuce. By lunch you’ve got soggy leaves and a pool of vinaigrette in the bottom corner. The actual fix is a small, lidded dressing pot that clicks into the box, or a removable sauce pod you can keep sealed until you’re ready to eat.

Crispness is mostly about moisture. Salads wilt when the dressing hits them, so keeping it separate is half the battle. The other half is making sure condensation doesn’t pool on the leaves. A box with a gasketed lid and a small vent, or just a dry paper towel folded in the lid, handles that fine. Glass or plastic doesn’t matter much for lettuce — the seal does.

Just make sure that little cup actually snaps or seals closed, because the cheap ones pop open in a bag.
