Get a Bento Tower, Not a Lunch Bag

Stackable bento-style lunch boxes are the right call for a cafe table because they hold a full meal in a narrow footprint.

A typical insulated lunch bag is bulky. It sprawls across half the table, and you end up pulling out crumpled containers that take over even more space. Not great when your “table” is barely big enough for a coffee.

A stacked bento box changes the geometry. The base is about the size of a plate, and the height does the work. One tier for your main, one for sides, maybe a bottom tier for rice or a salad. When you’re ready to eat, you can unstack the tiers and place them like plates, or just eat out of each one while it’s still stacked. Either way, you’re not covering the entire table.

Look for one with tight silicone seals and a solid latching clip. Plastic is lighter than stainless steel for a backpack, but steel lasts longer and doesn’t stain. Both work—just don’t buy one without a seal or you’ll be carrying soup in a bag of shame.
