Get a click-lock lid with a silicone seal. Better yet, buy a thermos.
For soup or yogurt, skip the bento box and get a separate leak-proof container with a click-lock lid and a silicone gasket. That combo is the closest thing to “completely leak-proof” you’ll find.
Bento boxes with compartments are great for dry snacks, but they lie about being leak-proof. Even when the lid has a seal, the sauce from one compartment always creeps into the rice. If you need liquids that stay put, you need a dedicated container — not a multi-compartment lunch box.
For yogurt, a small screw-top or click-lock container like Sistema or Rubbermaid works fine. For soup, don’t mess with plastic — get an insulated thermos (Thermos or Stanley are solid). That handles both leak-proofing and keeping things hot.
The silicone seal is the real hero. The click-lock clips just keep the seal pressed tight. If you see a lid that only snaps down without a gasket, it will leak eventually. Look for both: locking tabs on the sides and a thick silicone ring under the lid.
So yes, silicone seals and click-lock lids together are what you want. Just understand that no lunch box is “completely” leak-proof if a kindergartner throws it sideways across the room. But the good ones survive normal abuse.
Your kid’s backpack will finally stop smelling like strawberry yogurt.
