Get a food jar, not a lunch box, for soup or yogurt.
A vacuum-insulated food jar is the best leak-proof choice for carrying soups or yogurt without spills. Regular lunch boxes with plastic containers just don’t cut it when you’re packing something liquid.
The problem with most bento-style or compartment boxes is that their lids flex and the seals aren’t truly liquid-tight. A food jar, on the other hand, has a thick rubber gasket and a screw-on lid that locks down hard. You can literally turn it upside down and shake it without a drop coming out.
The classic Thermos Stainless King 16oz is the gold standard here — it’s affordable, indestructible, and keeps soup hot for hours. Hydro Flask’s food jar works great too if you want a wider mouth for yogurt. Even a cheap wide-mouth thermos with a good gasket will do the job. The key is that insulated jar design, not the brand.
One tip: for yogurt, skip any lid that clips shut and reach for something with threads. Clip lids can pop open when your bag gets squeezed. Threads don’t.
Just don’t test it by tossing it in your bag upside down — trust me on that one.
