Get a glass container with a vented lid

For office lunches, the best move is a glass container with a vented plastic lid—think Pyrex Simply Store or Glasslock. That’s the whole answer.

Plastic is the problem. Even “microwave-safe” plastic absorbs sauce, stains with tomato, and warps after a few months. Glass doesn’t. It goes from fridge to microwave to table and looks fine the whole time.

The lid matters more than you’d think. You want one that vents steam without popping off or staying so airtight that pressure builds up. The standard Pyrex lids with the little steam vents work great. Avoid lids that are completely sealed unless you’re ready to crack them open manually.

Compartmentalized bento boxes are cute, but they’re mostly plastic and reheat unevenly. If you need separate food, buy two small glass containers and carry them in one bag. That’s simpler than any engineered tray.

Your lunch will taste better, and you’ll stop replacing stained plastic.
