Get a latch-style bento box, not a soft bag

For a toss-prone toddler, skip the soft lunch bag and get a hard bento box with a latch.

Soft bags are the problem. They pop open when they hit the floor, food goes everywhere, and the inside gets gross. A hard plastic bento box with a latching lid keeps everything sealed until your kid is ready to open it. The Bentgo Kids is the one I see most often, and it works: five compartments, a leak-proof seal, and it survives a decent drop. PlanetBox Rover is tougher and metal, but heavier and pricier. For most toddlers, the plastic one is enough.

One thing to check: make sure the latch is actually a latch, not a weak snap. And get one with a handle or a silicone sleeve so they can carry it without it slipping. Avoid anything with a zipper or a roll-top. Those are just spill disasters waiting for the floor.

No lunch box is indestructible. Eventually your kid will find a way to break it. But the latch-style bento will survive the daily drop, and you can wipe it down in ten seconds.
