Get a lunch box with separate sauce pots

The best way to keep sauces and dressings from mixing is to stop relying on divided compartments and start using separate sealed containers.

Most “compartment” bento boxes share one lid, so the walls between sections are not liquid-tight. Tilt the box and your ranch floods into the fruit. Even popular ones like the Yumbox only guarantee the whole tray is leak-proof — not each little cell. The only real fix is physical separation with individual lids.

So what should you buy? Look for lunch boxes that come with small leak-proof pots, or just buy a set of silicone sauce cups and drop them into any normal lunch box. The box matters less than the cups. If you want a ready-made system, things like the Bentgo Salad or a Monbento with extra mini containers work, but the generic route is cheaper and more flexible.

Don’t chase the perfect bento. Give your sauces their own ride.
