Get a polyester training suit for lap swimming.

Yes. Polyester holds up against chlorine way better than the spandex/nylon blend most fashion suits use. You want a “training suit” from Speedo, TYR, or Arena — those are built for repeated pool use.

Chlorine is brutal on spandex. A cheap nylon suit might feel soft but will be faded and baggy after 20 swims. A polyester suit (or one with PBT) will keep its shape and color for hundreds of laps. The trade-off is that polyester can feel a little stiffer and less stretchy, but you get used to it fast.

Fit matters too. Don’t go too loose — you don’t want drag. But don’t size down to the point of discomfort either. Most swim brands have a fit guide. Follow it.

It’s not the sexiest suit, but it will still look good after six months of lap swimming.
