Get a real insulated cooler, not a lunch bag

For a no-fridge office, skip the flimsy lunch tote and get a soft-sided insulated cooler with two reusable ice packs.

The key is insulation, not just a bag. Those thin foil-lined totes are fine for a sandwich on a normal day, but they won’t keep chicken or yogurt cold until noon. You want something with thick walls — think a six-pack cooler style, not a paper-thin lunch sack. Look for a leakproof liner and a zipper that actually seals.

For ice packs, use two. One flat gel pack frozen solid, placed under your food container, and another on top. The top pack is what makes the difference if your bag is tall. A frozen water bottle works just as well, and you get cold water by the afternoon.

If you don’t want to fiddle with loose packs, PackIt bags have gel built into the walls — just freeze the whole bag overnight. That’s the easiest option, but it eats up freezer space and you have to remember to do it.

Either way, treat your lunch like a cooler, not a carry-all.
