Get a screw-top jar for yogurt and hummus

For yogurt or hummus, skip regular lunch boxes and get a screw-top jar. Honestly, the best “leak-proof lunch box” for wet foods is a mason jar or any jar with a tight screw lid.

Clip-lid containers like classic bento boxes are a gamble. Even the ones with silicone gaskets that claim to be leak-proof only work if the lid is perfectly aligned, the seal is clean, and the food stays upright. Yogurt and hummus are semi-liquid, so they will find any tiny gap and creep out. Once that happens, you’re wiping hummus off everything in your bag.

What actually works: screw-top glass jars (Weck, mason jars) or plastic containers with a threaded lid, like the OXO Good Grips or a decent screw-top deli container. For something more lunch-box-shaped, look at containers with a separate locking silicone seal that you can press down all around — like Sistema or Glasslock — but even those aren’t as forgiving as a screw lid. And if you’re using a bento-style box, keep the wet stuff in its own sealed mini-jar inside. That’s the pro move.

Don’t trust dry-fit tests with water. Hummus is thicker and behaves differently, but it’s still sticky, and screw-tops are the only real answer. Future you won’t be wiping lunch out of a laptop bag.
