Get an electric heated lunch box

If you want a hot lunch without relying on a thermos, get an electric heated lunch box like the HotLogic Mini.

A thermos keeps food warm by trapping heat, but it also keeps cooking it — vegetables turn to mush, fried stuff gets soggy, and everything eventually swims in its own condensation. An electric lunch box heats your food fresh right before you eat, so it actually tastes like a real meal. The HotLogic Mini is the one I’d grab: it’s basically a soft-sided insulated pouch with a heating plate on the bottom. Throw in your meal in a regular glass or plastic container, plug it in at your desk, and it warms to around 165°F in about 30–45 minutes. You can do pasta, pizza, rice bowls, whatever you’d normally microwave.

There are cheaper USB-powered bento boxes with built-in heaters, but they’re weaker and tend to unevenly heat. The HotLogic costs around $40–50 and works reliably.
