Get glass containers, not a fancy lunch box

For meal-prepping chicken and rice, the best lunch boxes aren’t lunch boxes at all — they’re a set of glass meal-prep containers with tight lids.

The key is glass, not plastic. Plastic absorbs the smell of seasoned chicken and stains from turmeric or tomato sauce no matter how many times you wash it. Glass doesn’t. It also goes straight from fridge to microwave (lid off, unless you want a science experiment) and cleans up without a fight.

The compartment question is a matter of preference. If you hate soggy rice, get the divided glass containers like Prep Naturals or Bayco. If you’re fine mixing it all together, a single-compartment Pyrex or Anchor Hocking works just as well and stacks better. The one non-negotiable is a lid with a snap-lock and a good seal. You don’t want chicken juice leaking all over your work bag.

As for the actual “lunch box” part — a simple insulated bag is all you need. Fancy bento boxes look great on Instagram but often leak or are plastic with weird crevices. Skip the trend.

Your rice stays dry, your bag stays clean, and your container doesn’t smell like yesterday’s garlic. That’s the whole game.
