Get Glass, Not Bento
For meal prepping a week of lunches, the best “lunch box” isn’t one box — it’s a stack of glass meal prep containers with locking lids.
Glass wins because it goes from fridge to microwave without drama, doesn’t soak up last week’s curry smell, and won’t come out of the dishwasher looking stained. Plastic works if you’re hauling it around a jobsite, but for most people, the breakage risk of glass is worth the trade-off.
Look for divided containers with leakproof lids and around 1.5 to 2.5 cups per section. Divisions keep rice from turning salad soggy and give you built-in portion control without a scale. A pack of four or five is enough for one week of lunches. Stack them in the fridge and grab one each morning.
If your office has a shared microwave, you don’t even need a separate lunch box — just an insulated tote to carry the glass containers in. Don’t overthink the bento boxes; they look nice but hold less and are annoying to clean.
Get one good set of glass meal prep containers and a lunch bag that fits them, and you’re done for the next five years.
